Updated · Ver. 1.042 · HR 100+ · Endgame meta · S tier weapon
A damage-first Gunlance build: Burst 5 and Burst Boost II (+18 attack while Burst is active) from four Ebony Odogaron points, Binding Counter from two Dahaad γ pieces, Guts from Lord's Soul and Agitator 5, with Artillery 3, Guard 3, Guard Up 3, Divine Blessing 3 and Evade Extender 3.
Auguring Omen forged from one element infusion and three attack infusions, attack focus (normal shells), upgraded to its Gogma form. Any element works; Darcblade shows a fire one and an ice one.
This one favours swinging the lance over firing shells: Burst, Agitator and Binding Counter boost raw and element, while shells deal fixed damage from shell type, level and Artillery. Mix both for the best results. Power Clashes come easily on a shield weapon and each one triggers Binding Counter. There is no health regeneration, so Quick Sheathe 3 gets the weapon away fast when you need to heal; Guard 3, Guard Up 3, Divine Blessing 3 and Guts cover the rest. Match the weapon and its jewel to the monster's weakness: Darcblade used the fire version on Arch-tempered Zinogre.
Synergies
Why each skill is in the set
01BurstBurst Boost II4 pts
Burst 5 with Burst Boost II
G. Ebony Helm β, Braces β, Greaves α and the weapon roll make four points of Ebony Odogaron's Power: Burst lasts even longer and grants +18 attack while active. Burst 5 comes from the two Ebony β pieces, the charm and a Chain jewel.
02Binding Counter I2 ptsArtillery
Binding Counter on every Power Clash
Dahaad Shardmail γ and Shardcoil γ unlock Jin Dahaad's Revolt: a Power Clash, or getting free of webbing, frostblight or a pin, raises your attack. On this build it boosts the lance swings rather than the shells, which deal fixed damage from shell type, level and Artillery.
03Guts (Tenacity)3 pts
Guts from Lord's Soul
The two Dahaad γ pieces and the weapon roll reach three points of Lord's Soul: more attack for less defence until it saves you from one lethal hit, then extra defence and elemental resistance.
04Fire AttackGuard
Fire Attack 3 on the swings
Shells ignore element, but lance swings do not. Blaze/Ironwall adds Fire Attack 3 and a point of Guard; swap it for the jewel of your weapon's element, or for Guardian/Ironwall (Offensive Guard) if you do not want the elemental route.
05Flayer
Transcend the three Ebony pieces
G. Ebony Helm β, Braces β and Greaves α are rarity 6, so Transcendence upgrades their slots to 3-1, 3-2 and 3-1: that is where the Chain jewel and the two Flayer jewels go.
Swaps
If you are missing a piece
Other elements: an Auguring Omen of that element with the matching Ironwall jewel (Frost/Ironwall on an ice one, for example).
The build needs Ebony Odogaron's Power and Lord's Soul rolled on the Gogma Artian weapon; Darcblade calls it the biggest drawback, since the roll is not always achievable.
The charm is a random roll (Artillery 3, Burst 1, one level-2 slot). Without Artillery 3 on a charm you have to spend weapon jewels on it.
Quick Sheathe 3 and the Mighty jewel (Maximum Might 1) are optional; replace them with anything you prefer.

02
When should I use the Full Burst Gunlance build?
Any monster.
03
Does Burst boost shelling?
No. Shells deal fixed damage from the shell type, shelling level and Artillery. Burst, Agitator and Binding Counter boost the lance swings, which is why this build rewards a swing-heavy style mixed with shelling.
04
What makes this the damage build?
It stacks every raw boost the Gunlance can use at once: Burst 5 with Burst Boost II, Agitator 5, Binding Counter after Power Clashes and the Guts attack bonus, plus the weapon element on swings.
05
Where does the Full Burst Gunlance build come from?
It is adapted from Darcblade's video "BEST ENDGAME GUNLANCE BUILDS : MONSTER HUNTER WILDS", re-fitted to the game data on this site: every piece, jewel and skill total above is checked against the database, and the swaps list what was changed and why.
06
Is Gunlance good in Ver. 1.042?
Gunlance is S tier on the weapon tier list. This is one of 4 Gunlance builds on the site, each tuned for a different target.
