How to play it

Soft skin · HZV 45+

Pick the Long Sword whose element the monster is weak to: the build leans more on element than raw. Leviathan's Fury triggers as you attack, adding a burst of thunder damage and a temporary affinity boost. Black Eclipse infects you with the Frenzy: overcome it by dealing damage (or eat a Nulberry) for bonus affinity, helped by Antivirus 3, and Coalescence 3 boosts your element once it is cured. Let the bar fill and you take double damage. Sharpness is the weak point, Razor Sharp 1 aside: expect to sharpen more often.

Why each skill is in the set

Leviathan's Fury
Lagiacrus Mail β and Lagiacrus Coil β complete the two-piece bonus: as you attack it builds up, then deals extra thunder damage and temporarily raises affinity. It works on top of any weapon element.
CoalescenceAntivirus
Shaking off the Frenzy feeds Coalescence
Gore Helm β and Gore Greaves β give Gore Magala's Tyranny. Overcome the modified Frenzy by dealing damage and it turns into bonus affinity; Antivirus 3 makes that faster and adds 10% more, and Coalescence 3 raises your elemental attack whenever you shake off the Frenzy or another blight.

Wyvern Blade "Maple" already carries Critical Boost 3, so one Critical Jewel II maxes it and the 1-slot takes an Expert jewel for Critical Eye 1. The Blaze/Rzr Sharp jewel maxes Fire Attack and adds a point of Razor Sharp.

Any Long Sword with 3-2-1 slots runs the same set: only the elemental jewel changes (Stream/Rzr Sharp on water, and so on). On a weapon without Critical Boost built in, use a Critical Jewel in the 1-slot and Critical Boost stops at 3.

Water: Tamonowo (Mizutsune) with Stream/Rzr Sharp Jwl, Critical Jewel II and Critical Jewel, which is Darcblade's second weapon. Ice: Blangongaberge. Dragon: Stahlrecht (Gore Magala). Darcblade also names the Rajang Long Sword for thunder and the Akantor one for dragon.
For a version that works on every monster, Darcblade suggests Lala Ornithocton, the Lala Barina paralysis Long Sword with the same 3-2-1 slots.
Agitator 3 comes from Challenger Charm III; use whatever charm you have, the rest of the build does not depend on it.

Why is this build budget?

Every piece can be made before Hunter Rank 100, none of it is Arch-tempered gear, the weapon is a regular tree weapon and the charm is craftable. Darcblade transcended some pieces for defence only, which does not change their slots.

What are its weaknesses?

The Frenzy: if you let the Black Eclipse bar fill you take double damage, which can catch newer players out. And sharpness, since the build has little sharpness management and regular weapons cannot extend their sharpness gauge the way Artian weapons can.
