How to play it

Flayer opens wounds so you can run the glaive's best combo more often, and Guardian Arkveld's Vitality heals you whenever you destroy a wound. Poison makes it general-purpose: no need to match a monster's elemental weakness. The weak spot is group play: if teammates take the wounds first, your damage drops. The set also has a -20 dragon resistance, so dragon-heavy monsters hurt.

Synergies

  1. FlayerWeakness Exploit

Flayer and Weakness Exploit from Guardian Arkveld

The Guardian Arkveld pieces carry most of both skills. Flayer makes wounds easier to open and periodically bursts for non-elemental damage; Weakness Exploit raises affinity on weak points, more on wounds.

  2. Decimator II5 pts

    Decimator: health from wounds

Five Guardian Arkveld pieces unlock Guardian Arkveld's Vitality, Decimator I and II: destroying a wound on a large monster restores a good amount of health.

  3. Poison AttackCritical StatusPoison Duration Up

    Poison from the Queen Regalia

Poison Attack 3 from the Venom jewels builds poison faster, the weapon's Critical Status boosts status on critical hits, and Poison Duration Up extends poison by 20%.

  4. Ward of Wyveria4 pts

    Guardian's Protection

The four β pieces give Ward of Wyveria, which reduces elemental and unique damage taken while fighting in the Wyveria area.

Swaps

  • Any Insect Glaive with 3-2-1 slots works: the Rathalos glaive for fire, the Lagiacrus or Jin Dahaad one for ice, Balahara for water, Gore Magala or Zoh Shia for dragon, and La-Barina's for paralysis. Swap the Venom jewels for the matching element or status jewels.

  • First time through the game, the Exploiter Charm is only level II: Weakness Exploit stays at 5 with it.

  • Confident with the glaive: replace the Jumping jewels with Destroyer jewels for Partbreaker, or with Mighty jewels for Maximum Might if you stay on the ground.

  • No armor piece needs Transcendence for this build.
