Sharpness

Ostrak Oblivion forged from one element infusion and three attack infusions, element focus, upgraded to its Gogma form. Darcblade carries a fire one and a dragon one; on the dragon sword the three Blaze jewels become Focus/Dragon, Guardian/Dragon and Shield/Dragon.

How to play it

Block on time to trigger Offensive Guard, a percentage raw bonus that suits the Great Sword's slow, heavy hits, and shoulder tackle through attacks to trigger Counterstrike without being knocked back. Second Wind gives you a small extra stamina bar, which keeps Maximum Might's 30% affinity up almost all the time. Guard Up lets you block attacks that are normally unblockable. Bring the fire sword for Gogmazios phases 1 and 2 and swap to the dragon one for phase 3. For most other monsters Darcblade prefers a raw build.

Synergies

  1. Offensive Guard

Offensive Guard 3 on a Great Sword

A perfectly timed block grants a percentage raw attack bonus rather than a flat one. The Great Sword hits slowly and hard, so a percentage bonus is worth a lot, and guarding is strong in Wilds, which makes the skill easy to keep up.

  2. Mutual Hostility II4 pts

Mutual Hostility I and II from Gogmapocalypse

Three Gogmazios pieces plus the Gogmapocalypse roll reach four points. Mutual Hostility I adds elemental attack while the monster is enraged; Mutual Hostility II surrounds you with an oil shield that lets you take a big hit without feeling its effects, then goes on cooldown.

  3. Second Wind I2 ptsMaximum Might

Second Wind keeps Maximum Might on

    G. Fulgur Mail β and Gogmazios Vambraces α carry Fulgur Anjanath's Will: Second Wind adds a small secondary stamina bar, so Maximum Might 3 and its 30% affinity stay active nearly all the time while you attack.

  4. Weakness ExploitAgitatorMaximum Might

    High affinity on weak points

Weakness Exploit 5 (up to 50% on wounds), Agitator 5 while the monster is enraged and Maximum Might 3 at full stamina add up to a build that crits most of the time.

  5. Counterstrike

    Counterstrike through the tackle

The shoulder tackle counts as a knockback for Counterstrike 3, so you get its raw bonus without being knocked out of your combo, and the tackle also takes you to the True Charged Slash faster.

  6. Divine BlessingGuard UpQuick Sheathe

    Defence without a shield

Divine Blessing 3 gives a chance to take reduced damage, Guard Up 3 blocks unblockable attacks, and Quick Sheathe 3 lets you put the sword away fast to reposition or heal.

Swaps

  • Dragon sword for phase 3: the same three jewels in their Dragon version (Focus/Dragon Jewel, Guardian/Dragon Jwl, Shield/Dragon Jwl) max Dragon Attack instead of Fire Attack.

  • The two Jumping jewels only give Evade Extender 2, a comfort skill; DPS players can use a Critical jewel for a few points of Critical Boost instead.

  • The build needs the Gogmapocalypse roll on the weapon: without it, Mutual Hostility II does not activate.

Elemental Great Sword FAQ

What gear does the Elemental Great Sword build use?

Ostrak Oblivion with Focus/Blaze Jewel [3], Guardian/Blaze Jwl [3], Shield/Blaze Jewel [3]; Arkvulcan Helm γ, G. Fulgur Mail β, Gogmazios Vambraces α, Gogmazios Coil α, Gogmazios Greaves β; Challenger Charm III; Rocksteady Mantle. That reaches Offensive Guard 3, Weakness Exploit 5, Agitator 5, Fire Attack 3 with Mutual Hostility II, Second Wind I.

When should I use the Elemental Great Sword build?

Soft skin · HZV 45+. A Great Sword build made to farm Gogmazios: a fire Ostrak Oblivion for phases 1 and 2 and a dragon one for phase 3, with Offensive Guard 3, Focus 3 and Guard Up 3 on the weapon, Weakness Exploit 5, Agitator 5 and Maximum Might 3 for affinity, and Mutual Hostility II plus Divine Blessing 3 to stay alive.

Is element good on the Great Sword?

Not usually: the weapon hits too slowly to make the most of element or skills like Burst. Darcblade uses this build specifically for Gogmazios and switches to raw builds for other monsters.

Can Guard Up block everything?

Guard Up lets you block attacks that are normally unblockable and reduces the damage they deal. A few scripted finishers depend on a damage threshold instead: if the party has not dealt enough damage before the move, Guard Up does not save you.

Where does the Elemental Great Sword build come from?

It is adapted from Darcblade's video "BEST ENDGAME GREAT SWORD BUILDS : MONSTER HUNTER WILDS", re-fitted to the game data on this site: every piece, jewel and skill total above is checked against the database, and the swaps list what was changed and why.

Is Great Sword good in Ver. 1.042?

Great Sword is S tier on the weapon tier list. This is one of 10 Great Sword builds on the site, each tuned for a different target.
